Danish Style + Ferm Living

September 13, 2017

A good friend of mine is a Dane. He lives in the heart of Copenhagen. His Instagram features places like The Standard, a Modern restaurant sitting on the waters of the Baltic Sea, the pedestrian only Strøget, and photos of the ever iconic Nyhavn (google it, you’ve seen pictures of it before). I once dared to ask what it was like to live in Copenhagen, and the result was a ten minute rant, boiling to the climax that, “It’s modernity, without losing history.”

My friend likes to humbly brag about his style, more specifically about how stylish his apartment is. I’d brag if I were him too. He’ll say “I’m so lucky to have such big windows,” or “I’m glad I chose light wood flooring…” His decor is a mix of grays, whites, blacks, with only the occasional dash of color for effect. It’s cool, and he knows it. What impresses me the most, is that no matter how many times I’ve seen his apartment, including over FaceTime, and Snapchat it’s consistently been devoid of all clutter.

If you haven’t realized it yet, I have an obsession with Danish style, which is why I’m thrilled to announce that + Modern Design will now be working with Ferm Living.

Based in Copenhagen, Ferm Living is modernity without losing history. This company cares about the process, from the origins of materials, to the skilled crafting of each product. Their goal isn’t for their products that dominate your life, but instead to fill the empty corners of your home. They care about the small candid moments.

+Modern will be selling their entire collection, but we wanted to highlight a few of our favorites.

Wallpaper

We can’t say it enough, this isn’t your grandmother’s wallpaper. From Marble to Herringbone, the selection is diverse. We can’t stop looking looking at the Terrazzo. If you’ve walked through KCI and seen the speckled flooring you know what Terrazzo is. It used to be only a flooring, now it comes in a variety of colors to adorn your walls. Modernity without losing history.

Pillows

Our showroom floor is currently flooded by Ferm Pillows, we’re not complaining. Each is unique in color, size, and texture, we’ve even got reversible. As always, there was no slacking in production. Materials are organic, and the last details down to the zippers are top notch.

Green Living

No house is complete without plants. Not only do they freshen the air, they’ve become a token of a stylish home. Ferm is all about Green Living. They provide a selection of pots, plant boxes, and vases. If you don’t have a green thumb, don’t fret, Ferm designs their products to be multi-use, a plant box can become a streamline container on your desk. It’s up to you.

+Modern is thrilled to bring Danish style to Kansas City, and beyond.
